The Hemp Feed Coalition dedicated months to gathering information, reviewing research, and consulting industry experts to finalize our third and final response to the FDA-CVM regarding the Application for Hemp Seed Meal for Laying Hens. After meetings with FDA-CVM investigators, additional literature review, supplemental studies with key feed partners and further sample testing, the HFC team has built a robust and defensible application.

All indications point to hemp seed meal as a viable protein source for laying hens, with no concerns of safety or efficacy for the ingredient. The latest response was submitted to FDA-CVM in January; now is the waiting period to hear back before the 180-day timeline. The HFC team hopes to gain agreement and recommendation to AAFCO that hempseed meal is an acceptable ingredient for their next ingredient publication! This application and the associated research would not be possible without the support and expertise of our members, champions, steering committee, and board members.
