HFC Board President, Andrew Bish, heads to Washington, DC, for a second trip this week to meet with legislators to discuss the Hemp Feed Initiative. The Hemp Feed Initiative seeks to gain federal approval for hemp seed products for companion animals through the farm bill. This effort rests on 4 pillars.

️⃣ Hemp Grain Products Only: We advocate for grain-based products only for a safe legislative path to market. Hemp grain does not contain cannabinoids, which require further FDA safety studies.

️⃣ Non-Consumption Animals Only: More research is needed to make data-driven decisions regarding approval for production animals, but companion animals pose no threat to the supply chain.

️⃣ No Added Cannabinoids: No cannabinoids are produced within hemp grain. Naturally occurring cannabinoids come into contact with the flower due to their proximity on the plant, though only minor amounts are transferred to the surface. This surface contamination is reduced even further to parts per million or even billion with good genetics, conditioning, and processing.

️⃣ Compliance with Feed Product Registrations: Compliance with labeling and nutritional analysis, testing for microbial and shelf life, and product registrations.
